Lenovo is one of the few companies that is doing good in both the PC and smart devices industry. As a fruit of its efforts, it has had a very successful first quarter in 2013, which ended June 30 with a revenue of US$8.8 billion which is a ten percent increase year-over-year. Also the company’s pre-tax income grew to US$215 million which is a 16% increase year-over-year and earnings grew by 23% year-over-year to US$174 million.
While PC sales have been only one part of Lenovo’s success, the real growing industry for Lenovo seems to be its smartphone and tablet sales. The combined sales of smartphones and tablets have outnumbered the PC sales for the first time in a quarter and it is a clear indication of where the market is headed. Some significant numbers for Lenovo during the first quarter include the fact that Lenovo is the fourth largest smartphone vendor and it has the fastest growth among the top 5 vendors with a growth percentage of 132%. China has been a great market for Lenovo where it is the second largest smartphone vendor and it has grown 121% year-over-year.
Lenovo is rapidly gaining its space in the smartphone and tablet industry and it is good to see a healthy competition.
