Nokia’s Abu Dhabi event saw the launch of quite a few phones although the company is all set to be taken over by Microsoft. Among the various phones launched, the star of the show was Nokia Lumia 1520. It is the first in quite a few terms – first Windows phablet, first 1080p Windows Phone, first quad-core Windows phone and first PureView device with a 20MP sensor. Nokia had previously announced their Lumia 1020 back in June with a dual-core processor and a 41MP camera, but in a more compact form-factor.
We bring you a quick hands-on between the two yellow-clad Lumias and you can check out the video right below.
One of the biggest difference is the display – Lumia 1520 has a huge 6inch Full HD IPS LCD Nokia ClearBlack display(367ppi) while the Lumia 1020 has a 4.5inch AMOLED HD display(332ppi). Because of the huge display, the 1520 is considerably larger than the 1020 by 3 centimeters in terms of height and 1.5cm in terms of width. Since there is no bump at the back, Lumia 1520 is thinner than the 1020. Other than the dimensions and the camera hump, there is very little to differentiate in terms of design language – typical Lumia finish.
Under the hood, Lumia 1520 runs on a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 SoC, has 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU while the Lumia 1020 runs a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, has 2GB RAM and Adreno 225. Lumia 1520 brings the best processor available in the market to Windows Phones. There is also a microSD card in the Lumia 1520 in addition to the 32GB internal storage while the Lumia 1020 is limted to only a 32/64GB internal storage. The Lumia 1520′s no hump back comes as a result of shedding nearly half the MegaPixels count as that of Lumia 1020. Lumia 1520 comes with a 20MP PureView camera at the back that produces 16MP images and a 5MP over-sampled image while the Lumia 1020′s 41MP camera produces a 34MP raw image and 5MP over-sampled image. Both the phones have OIS, but one of the key differences is that unlike the Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520 does not come a with Xenon flash, instead it comes with a dual-LED flash.
