Nokia Lumia 925 vs Huawei Ascend P6

Slim is definitely in with manufacturers constantly looking to make their devices slimmer with even more features. With the Ascend P6, Huawei have come very close, packing a feature list including a 4.7 inch 720p screen, Quad-core processor and 8MP camera into a body just 6.2 mm thin.

In comparison, the Lumia 925 comes in at 8.5 mm with similar specs with the addition of a PureView camera and 4G LTE. Despite very clear differences, these hero devices share some design similarities. Each manufacturer has targeted camera users with their devices yet they do not directly compete. The Lumia 925 sports an 8 MP camera with Carl Zeiss Optics, Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and PureView technology and clearly focuses on users who like to capture photos in all conditions.

Whilst Huawei have enabled the Ascend P6 with an 8MP camera, they’ve clearly focuses on users who like to take selfies, with the P6 featuring an class-leading 5MP camera. Along with their new Beauty Level software, the Ascend P6 is definitely one for the fashion focused and aims to lead the current “selfie” craze.

The question about the design of these two devices involves considering other devices as well – Apple is notorious for deploying a slate design to their devices and arguably the iPhone 5 is the inspiration for Huawei’s design of the P6. Taking inspiration from Apple’s iPhone, both Nokia and Huawei have had to incorporate antenna strips into the design of their devices in order to provide a stable antenna strength. Whilst the Ascend P6 uses almost identical antenna bars to the iPhone, the antenna strip on the Lumia 925 is slightly wider – this could ensure that the overall network strength is better than both the iPhone and the Ascend P6.

Without doubt, both the Ascend P6 and the Lumia 925 have similar design characteristics. From a slate unibody design to on-screen/capacitive buttons, the two devices aim to cater for the need to differentiate against the iPhone. With one running Windows Phone and the other running Android, both the Lumia 925 and the Ascend P6 aim to cater for people wanting the iPhone without getting an Apple product.
